How We Test the Kit
Every kit Waxwright lists is checked by Nadia Colbert against the supplier's printed contents and used for a real pour before it goes on sale.
Our criteria
- Contents against the printed list. Every item is counted against what the supplier prints: one pitcher, two bags of wax, 50 wicks plus 20 extra, four tins, ten jars, two fragrance oils, four dyes, two centering devices, one spoon, 56 glue dots and the manual. A kit that arrives short of that list does not get listed.
- A real pour. We melt, scent, color and pour a batch using only what is in the box. If a step requires equipment that is not included, we say so on the product page rather than letting you discover it mid-session. That is why the pages state plainly that you supply a saucepan for the water bath, and that no thermometer or scale is included.
- Dimensions. We check the printed size diagram against the items themselves: box, pitcher, jars and tins. Those figures appear on the home page. Where the supplier publishes nothing, notably the weight of the wax bags and any numbered wick size, we publish nothing.
- Every review, read individually. We read all 120 reviews on the source listing rather than the star average, and tallied the recurring themes. That tally is published on the home page and led with on the reviews page, including the eleven mentions of a damaged carton.
- Honest limits. The carton travels badly, the plastic jars are basic, and the two 10 ml fragrance bottles are a taste rather than a supply. All three appear on the product pages because they are the things a buyer would otherwise find out the hard way.
What happens when something goes wrong
Testing a kit does not stop a carton from being crushed in transit. What we can control is what happens next: if a component arrives damaged or missing, we send the replacement part rather than asking you to box the whole kit back up.
